Malakoff
Limited was formed in 2003, following the management buy
out of Malakoff and Wm Moore Ltd, a former Lithgow Group company.
The business has been constructing vessels since
1986 when it was decided to build a durable replacement craft
to service the newly
established salmon farming industry, then using lightweight and
unsuitable ex army assault craft. The 21' aluminium "Voeboat" was
the result and this craft was designed in-house and built to
comply with Lloyds and MCA rules on construction.
The basic range
of aluminium craft was expanded and vessels up
to 12 metres have been constructed with powers up to 800 hp
and speeds exceeding 30 knots. Catamarans have been added to
the
range and Malakoff Limited is now recognised world wide as
a specialist
aluminium boat constructor.
In 1988 our first steel boat was
designed in-house and constructed for a local fish farmer.
This 12.8 metre vessel is operating
successfully to this day. In all, eight steel vessel constructions
have been
undertaken and completed to a high standard, ranging from
11.5 metres to 14.5 metres.
Our company also provides a wide
range of engineering skills - mechanical and marine engineers,
machinists, marine and
industrial electricians, welders, fabricators, carpenters,
joiners and
painters, supported by our project and consultancy facilitiies.
Our core
business is boat repair at our slipways at Lerwick and
Scalloway. We are also active in marine civil construction
works, diving
and
retail chandlery.
Malakoff Limited employs a total of 65
personnel between the Lerwick and Scalloway shipyards. It
has a turnover
of nearly £4 million
and has a Management Quality System compliant with ISO
9001:2000.
